Veneers Q & A

What are veneers?

Dental veneers are flat shells that Dr. Zharkina and her team can bond to the fronts of your teeth to cover cosmetic imperfections. They custom create your veneers to match the contours and colors of your natural teeth.

Porcelain veneers are a popular option among dental patients everywhere who choose to improve their smiles with veneers. Porcelain matches the natural translucence and tone of your teeth, so they blend in well with your smile. To make room for the veneers, Dr. Zharkina removes a thin layer of your tooth enamel before bonding them to your teeth.

At InStyle Dental, Dr. Zharkina typically uses porcelain veneers for this cosmetic treatment. They’re especially durable and resistant to wear and tear, and the brand offers a wide range of shades to match any natural tooth color.

Do I need veneers?

Veneers are an appropriate treatment option for most minor cosmetic flaws. While they can’t replace braces or other types of aligners to give you a straighter smile, you can request them to cover up:

  • Cracks

  • Chips

  • Discoloration

  • Heavy staining

  • Gaps between teeth

  • Oddly shaped teeth

  • Small teeth

Even though they’re strong and durable, veneers are intended to go over your front teeth, which don’t require much resistance to the forces of your bite. If one of your molars is particularly unattractive or damaged, you’re better off getting a crown to fix it.

How long do veneers last?

Because the procedure for getting veneers involves changing your tooth’s structure via the removal of some enamel, veneers are intended to be a permanent solution to cosmetic imperfections. In other words, if you get veneers, you can expect to wear them for the remainder of the lives of the teeth that they cover. However, individual veneers may eventually wear down and cause you to need new devices.

Porcelain veneers from Dr. Zharkina and her team typically last 10-15 years or longer if you take good care of them. With veneers on your teeth, you should avoid chewing on solid objects like popcorn seeds, ice cubes, and even your fingernails. If your veneers start to look less than pristine, simply call InStyle Dental for replacements.
